The first Junior Choir was formed in 1991. At that time, there were only about 50 members. But now, we have 100 members. Most members are from Form One and Form Two. There are also a few members studying in Form Three. The Junior Choir is divided into two parts -- Soprano and Alto. Our teacher adviser and choir conductor is Ms. Hwong Yen Fong.
In September 1997, Ms. Hwong chose some Form One students to join the Junior Choir. At first, some Form One members sang in the wrong way. But after the help of Ms. Hwong and some Form Two members, they were up to the standard and sang quite well.
We started our practice in October 1997. The practices were held twice a week, during lunch time and after school.
We got certificates of merit every year in the Music Festival since 1991. Although we got quite good results every year, we wanted to do better this year. We practised harder as a result. This year, we sang two songs: 'All things bright and beautiful' and 'Frolic'.
Unfortunately, Ms. Hwong could not be our conductor because she was sick. So the president of Music Association, Mr. William Lai Wai Hang, tried to help us to finish learning the songs. After a few months, though we knew how to sing those songs, the standard was not good enough. He then invited Mr. Gary So to be the conductor. We managed to sing the song very well under their guidance.
Finally, the competition for Junior choirs of the 50th Music Festival came. On 2nd February 1998, we went to Martha Boss Community Centre where the competition was held. There were eleven competitors. We sang quite well and, as a result, we got 84 marks and the 3rd place. We felt really happy after this.
Finally, I would like to thank our Principal, Mr. Norman So, for his generous support; our conductors and teacher advisers, Mr. Gary So and Ms. Hwong Yen Fong, for their guidance and encouragement; Mr. Francis Kong, for his invaluable advice, and our M.A. President, William Lai.
I hope Junior Choir will become even better in the future and make better achievements in the coming Music Festivals.
